Safety tips
WorkMap connects you with people nearby. The work and the meeting are between you. A few habits keep it safe.
Before you accept
- Read the profile: ratings, reviews, how many jobs done, how long on WorkMap.
- Ask for photos of past work — there’s a quick reply for it.
- If the job needs a licence (electrical, plumbing, gas, roofing, anything structural), ask for the licence number and look it up with your state. In New Jersey: njconsumeraffairs.gov.
- Agree the price, what it includes (materials? disposal?), and when, in the chat — so it’s written down.
Meeting
- Your address and number are only shared once you accept an offer. Until then, keep it in chat.
- Have someone else home for bigger jobs, or tell a friend who is coming and when.
- Trust your gut. If something feels off, cancel — it’s one tap, and you can block.
Paying
- Pay when the work is done, not before. Never pay a deposit to someone you haven’t met.
- Use a method with a record (bank app, card, cheque) rather than cash for anything substantial.
- Never share bank logins, codes or gift cards. Anyone asking for those is a scammer — report them.
For pros
- Confirm the scope in chat before you drive out.
- Don’t do work that needs a licence you don’t hold, and don’t take on jobs that look unsafe.
- Rate honestly and keep your profile accurate.
